Blog draft April 15 26

Time Spent

I while away the time a lot now that I am retired. I watch a lot of YouTube videos. Although many are entertaining and story driven (read that as drama) many more are documentaries. I learn things. Lots of things. Some are deeply interesting, others are peripheral, nearly meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

This form of whiling is new to us. Streaming TV and YouTube is new to me, probably to you as well. I am fascinated by how much information is new to me. I thought I read broadly and deeply. Evidently I have missed much!

I write my blog three times a week. Ever since Rocky’s death, I have not returned to daily production of the blog. Too much thinking is involved. Too much desiderata amassed to make easy sense of it all. But the blog is a central effort on my part. It keeps me focused on life in general as well in particular.

I also read books and journals. I keep up with the news and weave it into a fabric I can understand. I share that with others through the blog. All of this keeps me alive. My mother lived to 104; she read one book a week and worked crossword puzzles most of the rest of the time. She was knowledgeable and informed. I think that kept her alive longer.

I spend time managing time as well, you know, when to shop for groceries, how to stretch out the groceries to last until the next shopping trip, keeping my wardrobe clean and presentable, and recently finding ways to refresh the wardrobe now that I have more spending power. New shoes, some shirts, a new jacket, and slacks are now on the docket. Whether to shop online or in the stores remains a major consideration. I prefer stores but the effort to drive there, walk the aisles and make a decision is often too much. Online is faster, less work, and enormous selection base. The problem, fit and finish. I like to see what I’m getting.

I do take naps; probably two per day. I get 7 hours of sleep or more each night, and I mostly remain at home in the evening. I detest driving at night with the new headlights piercing my eyes from front and rear! Yes, daytime errands is the norm of my routine these days. Retirement affords this luxury.

The rest of my free time when not spending it with friends and family, is to delve deeper into live streaming TV. There is a lot there but not all is good to consume. It takes discernment and purpose to select what to watch. I am not sure I have this figured out well yet, but I’m working on it.

Meanwhile, it’s time for another nap. Ta ta.
