Bits & Pieces

Tech and Ageing: Everywhere I turn these days is a request for digital data entry. Doctor visits, medical lab entry and more require digital entries. Almost everything on the phone and computer needs digital confirmations and I’m used to that. I was just surprised with two medical appointments yesterday. I watch other elders surprised by the requirement. I watched them struggle with doing it although it was really was simple.

Lately I have been struck how much technology confronts my daily life. If the systems are working well, I’m OK. If they aren’t, holy moly! I’m hoping there are people who can help those of us who age out of tech ability one of these days!

Hybrid & EV Vehicles: Rising gas prices pose an expensive road trip out west to Arizona and New Mexico this spring, but my hybrid will get great gas mileage, about 38 mpg. Full EVs (electric vehicles) will get better mileage, most likely above 50 mpg. Either way, these vehicles are quick, quiet and smooth. Very comfortable, too. This is my fourth hybrid and each one has impressed me greatly. Performance is outstanding and I don’t need a 400 horsepower gas engine to get it!  That alone should get converts to EVs.

Bifocals and?: Sang a 28 page duet the other night at church. Was asked to stand in front of a music stand. Had my walker to maintain stability but the music was a little farther away than the bifocals would allow comfortably. Missed several words and a lot of notes. More telling was the discomfort of the situation and thus music suffered. Both of us played off each other and of course we missed things because of the above. Oh well; the composition was beautiful and most people still enjoyed it regardless of our difficulties. Still singing at 82+!
