Nearing Month End 012826
Yes, another month ending, but this is the first month of the new year. That must count as something special. For me it means we have well begun the first new year. A whole month has gone by. But what does it mean?
Indeed, what has this month accomplished? Let us count the
ways.
1.
Income tax filing will be done by month end. The
forms are well started, only waiting for a couple of 1099’s
2.
No debt. Well, I have an apartment lease and an
auto lease. Those are both contracts that promise to pay, so they are debt
instruments
3.
Holidays done and paid for
4.
American president starts a war with Venezuela
5.
President assumes authority to declare a foreign
nation as belonging to the USA, a NATO ally at that
6.
President assumes authority to levy tariffs on
any nation not agreeing with him
7.
Legal case laid out clearly showing Trump
fomented the January 6th, 2021, attack on the Capitol building
8.
Contrary to their oaths of office, the president
and many of his officials plainly do not support or implement the Constitution
of the USA. That is impeachable on its face and removal from office mandatory
9.
I’m making plans for a lovely trip to the
southwestern deserts this spring
Quite a month, don’t you think? History making. Personally, rewarding
with a pleasant future beckoning. Well, removal of a president isn’t pleasant,
but it is progress in this case.
Now for the doing. Good things and bad. Each has its purpose,
and promise. The personal items are clear, manageable and pleasant. The national
issues are all about following the law. One usually doesn’t need to question
this in our nation’s history but look at the current mess in Washington DC. Co-equal
branches of the federal government are anything but co-equal. No, the Executive
Branch seems to have gathered all the power unto themselves. That is, until another
branch steps forward to correct the errors leading to this situation.
The Supreme Court has made missteps in the past several
months, but it appears they are readying their correction. Lower courts are
already doing so. Congress has finally demonstrated it has will and
determination to do the right thing. Both the House and the Senate are action
with certainty. The pendulum is swinging in the right direction and the White
House minions are showing signs of despair.
About time. Let the rest of us support these changes in
visible ways so progress continues. We may have three co-equal branches before
the mid-term elections. Wouldn’t that be nice!?
