Final Move Report

This is Wednesday, February 5th, and I am moved into the new apartment completely. That does not mean all the boxes are empty and contents placed in their new spot. The living room is pretty much done but no art hangs on the wall. A lot of that needs doing. But most of the things are where they are likely to remain. A little bit of fussing will happen over coming months, but the LR looks good, inviting and relaxing.

The bedroom is another matter. As a bedroom, it is OK. As it includes my office computers, no, it is not alright. Connections of various electronics remain to do, and I have little knowledge or imagination to handle that. Placement of electronics and proper length of cords are all a problem. Physically, enough space exists to accommodate the office in the bedroom. It is a tight fit, however.

On the plus side, the apartment looks to the north and thus eliminates the horrendous pouring of sunlight into my old apartment. Air conditioning bills were through the roof. I suspect this unit will be much easier to cool. The old unit was also colder and the furnace ran quite a lot. The new apartment is much warmer and cozy. The furnace has run only a few times in the last four days!

The ceilings are lower, 9 feet versus 10 for the old apartment, and since we were on the top floor we had a large sky light and an attic overhead which led to heat loss. The furnace worked overtime in cold winters. Although the heat is included in our rent, and gas is the source of energy for dryer, stove and heat, I have no gas bill. Electricity, however, carries the weight of air conditioning. I doubt that will be a problem in this apartment.

Another feature here is the balcony of old has been replaced with a terrace at ground level with green grass and mature trees. The sylvan surrounds are very pleasant and quiet. I am away from the trains and emergency vehicle sirens of Main Street. This cozy location is quite peaceful.

Now as I write this blog, I have little interruption. Classical music is on in the background. Sunlight is reflecting from my northerly neighbors’ homes, and my mind can focus on the blog.

I have asked for help from tech strangers via Facebook to hook up my computer auxiliaries and stereo system. Once all of that is accomplished, don’t forget the wall hangings, I will be mostly settled.

Pam is due back from her month-long cruise by February 21. Hopefully this home will be settled by then.

Thanks to all who helped and supplied welcome words of advice. Much appreciated.
