Moving Part 2

The first day of moving began Monday. The keys were available after noon to give the crew time to thoroughly clean the apartment including carpet and kitchen and bathroom floors. All is in order. Cabinets and drawers are clean and ready for my stuff, so much stuff!

I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped. Moving takes energy and tools. I think I have most of the tools, but I don’t have the energy of prior years, nor the physical agility and balance. Still, closet has shelving in place to handle a lot of flat clothes like sweaters and folded shirts and wash pants. Shoes, too. Plenty of hanging space for the rest of the do rags.

The old storage closet/walk-in pantry is nearly empty and incorporated into the new floorplan. Living in a smaller space will be manageable. And the bedroom is roomier than my current one and should accommodate my computer desk and office supplies handily. I hope to place the computer desk in front of the bedroom triple wide window with a view to green lawn, two mature trees and a green, landscaped hill leading to our next-door neighbors on the street behind our building. All in all, a very pleasant environment to write the book.

My storage bin on the 4th floor is smaller than the storage room in front of my car in the garage, so I needn’t worry about not having enough room. Besides, downsizing efforts have truly eliminated a lot of things no longer needed. Too bad nothing was sold, only donated or paid to remove. Such are the times.

A side note: checked out my new mailbox and it is crammed with the previous tenant's mail. Will notify the building and the post office of this. However, it does remind me to check my storage room in the garage. If that is stuffed, too, we are in trouble!

Mirrors and wall art will need placement and installation. That will come in future weeks as I live with the new space and get the right feel for things.

So, a good start on a difficult task. Thanks for help from so many people, especially family. I could not do this without your assistance. More progress reports to come.

Beginning wit this one: Tuesday's work was hampered by several things, but I arranged the next steps and loads to be moved. When help arrived in the afternoon, we made quick work of it all and accomplished more than I had thought possible for one day. Today, Wednesday, will be moving kitchen items to new apartment, including food and refrigerator contents. Organizing office items will be next.

Progress is noted!
