Thank You, Kamala
Before it is too late, I just wanted to express my thanks to Kamala Harris and her running mate for their efforts to be elected President and Vice President of the United States. I appreciate your efforts to counter the negative horrors of the Trump MAGA people. Their every utterance was to create fear, loathing and chaos among the public. Such is the stuff of wacky elections. The chaos confuses many people and gets them off topic. They identify with shallow issues that will amount to little; these are not promises, just distractions designed to win elections. The strategy worked for far too many people.
Rather than arguing or defending against such tripe, Kamala
presented a forward vision of what she stood for, what the nation stands for,
and the values to be used going forward. All of those statements are true and
defensible. They are, however, not the strategies that work in the environment
of this election. No, manipulation, chaos and dishonesty were the bywords of
this election.
It didn’t help that an aging, successful public servant like
Joe Biden was slated for re-election. He ought not to have been so slated, but
this was not Kamala’s call. Allowing mislabeling Joe Biden as bumbling and feeble
was not easily defended. And it wasn’t. the fact that the winning candidate was
feeble and bumbling himself, didn’t seem to matter. His handlers focused on
other issues that debilitated Biden and distracted from Trump’s own declining
abilities.
Recasting the Democratic Presidential candidate as Kamala,
did its own damage and takes some of the blame. Kamala is a worthy candidate in
her own right, but she also would have been the first black woman President in our history. A measurable number of voters had trouble with that
although that is their problem solely. What mattered is those votes did matter
in the totals and the Democrats could not press forward with Kamala’s gender or
ethnicity. A strange circumstance, but there it is, and it mattered in the end.
How much it mattered will be argued for decades.
No, in my mind, Kamala stood for every value I cherish in
our nationhood. I supported her. I voted for her. But I felt it was a lost
cause from the very beginning. That is not on her but belongs squarely on
Democrat managers.
We now face a frightful and fraught four years of Trump's
mismanagement and chaos. It is his hallmark. That and endless lawsuits that
will give full employment to the legal profession for the next forty years. Too
bad, that. The law is the law, but lawsuits are not suitable for elections. As a
strategy for elections, it demonstrates the moral bankruptcy of the republican party. And Trump.
Let us remember all of this as we attempt to block as much
damage as we can as thinking, valued citizens of a nation under attack.
