Weather

Second blog of my return to activity and what do I write about? The weather. Ho hum?

No. Not ho hum. This summer has been amazing. Oh sure, we had some very hot weather, but the rainy spring was replaced by a summer of dry weather. Rain did not consume entire weeks, but only a day or two at a time. Much of the rain fell at night. Days were bright and sunny. When do you remember that?

I was not affected much by inclement weather these past 6 months. Being tied to home to attend to Rocky’s hospice care, I didn’t have to drive in the rain, walk in the rain or anything else. We were pretty much stay at home. We did witness the weather, however. From our windows we observe the sun, the green outdoors, and the activities of others enjoying the great weather.

I can also share the observation that the winter was mild. Sure, we had early severe cold but that did not return during the balance of winter months. Snow was intermittent and followed by warm temperatures to melt the snow. Spring was early and mild. Somewhat chilly at times, and more than enough rain to green the landscape for summer. Transition months between seasons wore gently on our souls.

And then it was summer. Glorious summer.

Now, as we transition to fall, here we are on Labor Day with very hot temps again. Just another short reminder that seasons do not always change on time. So, we continue to plan for cooler weather and anticipate winter’s cold. Wardrobes are changed, old items are tossed or replaced. The car is checked for tire condition and appropriate coolant. Hats, gloves and overcoats are assessed for serviceability. Still the questions linger, ‘are we ready for winter?’

We will move on to experience whatever follows. Ready or not, we survive the weather. It affects us but rarely stops us. We manage the inconveniences and short-term troubles. We live each day as it comes as we always have. For some reason, though, we most always ask, ‘some weather, huh?’ And surely, we have a ready answer!

Enjoy whatever weather greets our day. It is our reality of being.
