11th Anniversary of Blog

It doesn’t seem possible eleven years has gone past so quickly. But it has.

This blog began at a time I was the managing editor of a community newspaper. Focusing on that community and its needs was central to what our team was all about. Political events in the state, region and nation were also big at the time. I found it difficult to keep those news items out of the community paper.

To help me do that, I began writing this blog. It is meant to be a commentary on the daily events and emerging news on a national scale. I hoped this strategy would keep the community focus of the paper clear of national items unless that were pertinent. The blog succeeded to do just that.

Along the way hundreds of thousands of readers scanned my blog. Interestingly, foreign readers outnumbered domestic readership. Reader interest came from France, Indonesia and Asia. Why this was so I cannot imagine. Some days readership soared while other days it stumbled to low numbers.

Then something happened with Google and while my blog remained in place it no longer was addressable by me for updates. I continued to write daily blogs and posted them to Facebook. That’s where it has its readership today. The numbers are modest, but I continue to write it because it is satisfying and a tonic to me.

Meanwhile the newspaper published its last issue more than two years ago after 8 years of publication serving three neighboring communities. I miss that paper and the work within the community it entailed. I have retired and moved on to other things, notably SCORE mentoring. That has been a great joy for me.

Old age has been a seamless transition. I am as busy as ever, just in different ways. Life continues to be interesting and at times startling. Being busy helps. The busy with what also matters.

Now, for year twelve, this is what I had in mind…
