Fine Teeth of Justice

It has been said that justice is met with very fine teeth. Meaning: the details are center stage and take time to find, relate to other details, compare with the law, comply with law and process of law, bring to court, prepare case, try case. Decisions by judge and jury guide the judicial process along carefully and slowly. Maddening at times. The system, the process, is not for the impatient.

On TV drama shows, justice is swift and certain. In real life, justice is slow and plodding. It is designed this way to protect the innocent, you and I.

The FBI raid on Mar A Lago, Trump’s Florida home, took years to occur. Done correctly, findings will be admissible in court. Done incorrectly the whole exercise is thrown out.

Care. Details. Attention. Bit by bit a case is built. Out of chaos of January 6, 2021, the Capitol hill riot or insurrection, unfolded. Hundreds of participants, some say thousands, with much background and causal history, produced the chaotic scene. Each and every movement must be parsed. Must be assembled and analyzed over and over to make the case. The case has to be supported by fact. It must be legally assembled and prosecuted. It is done in months and years, not minutes, hours and days.

Only TV dramas have the luxury of telescoping time for a fast succession to truth and justice.

Truth and justice are two different words. They do not mean the same. One term is known by few, the other becomes known by many and for the record. One is open to interpretation while the other stands as sentinel for all time.

In the doing of justice, patience is required. Painstaking patience and process. Before the final acts of justice, external perspective of the case is easily manipulated to create false narratives to the public. But those entrusted with the process know their role and keep at it through thick and thin.

I am impatient. I think I know the truth in the matter of January 6th. I don’t know the truth, of course; I can only surmise truth. The system will yield its product eventually. Then and only then we will know the truth.

And yes, for doubters, not all the truth can be known. That’s why there is always the chance that the outcome may be imperfect. Also maddening, this is a truth of our lives in a complex world.

I have faith in the system. I will it to work. I will find the patience to wait out the system for its verdict.

Until then, I keep busy with matters I hope will build a more perfect world. That’s all I can do. It will have to do.
