Ides of June
Middle of the month. Already. The other day it was January something. Now winter, spring have passed. Summer has arrived. A little cool to start, but then the heat. Humidity has been low so far this season, but boy howdy, that changed in a hurry!
Nice to awaken to a sunny sky. Clouds are such downers.
Especially if rain is imminent.
As I look out the office window (second bedroom converted to
office in retirement rented condo!), I see billowy green trees. I see blue sky hazed
by early morning dew. I see golden rays bouncing up and down the street,
shining off passing car windows. I see deep shadows from the slant of the early
sun. Beautiful. Tranquil. Comforting. And the moon, large, looming and hanging low in the sky.
The temps are rising. Stocks are dropping. Inflation is
rising. So are gas prices. But falling are the miles driven to save the gas, or
more likely, the gas budget.
Also rising is the new building next door. Activity of late
has been modest. A lot going on inside as finishing touches are applied. But
the exterior has stopped progress. We casual observers think that is because
the supply chain has caught up with brick and tile manufacturers. The only progress
outside yesterday was the installation of the parking lot light poles.
OK, so changes abound. Everywhere things change. Always
have. Life is what we do to accommodate change. Some of those changes we make
ourselves. some of the changes happen to us. Which is which being the
interesting aspect. Then, what we do about all change is the true story of our
lives.
As I write this piece, the automatic word.doc grammar king
pops up again and again. I know my tenses. I know my cases. I understand
grammar (except for commas!) and I am a super good speller. Vocabulary is large
enough to perplex myself at times, but then I need to check spelling on some of
those rarely used terms. the point of my mentioning all of this is verb tense
and grammar software are not always correct. You can argue with me, but that
which is readily understood by the masses eventually becomes correct usage!
Today is a simple day. One doctor appointment, nothing
urgent. One electronic roundtable session with colleagues. Oh, yes, I will fill
the tank of the car today. Well, maybe not really full, just what 75 or 100
bucks can get these days.
Rest of week is filled nicely with client sessions. Then
Saturday, my birthday. The dreaded end of decade birthday. This time it’s 79.
Next year will be 80. Hard to believe. The decades have flown by so quickly.
Time does that, right? When young, time stands still; for ages. Then life’s
pace quickens. Just when it gets interesting – perspective, accumulated wisdom,
etc. – it is over. At least the end comes with calm and balance. Earlier, that would not be likely. Too many unsettled things to fret over!
Meanwhile, we live this beautiful day. Hot, but still a
beauty!
