American Taliban?

Right here, in the United States? Yes, separation of church and state in the US appears to be a thing of the past. Like the Taliban, in Afghanistan, people of faith in one religious tradition have taken control of our social order. Like similar nations in the Middle East, government and church have become one. Is that the future of America? The evidence is building.

We see it in unbridled gun ownership, gun violence and the snide pride of gun owners who say it is their right. Right? To make it easy to gun down young school kids? To increase drive by shootings in neighborhoods across the nation? To protect your home at night from marauders when you are more likely to shoot and kill a family member walking through their own home?

No background checks. No proof of mental stability. Even assault rifles are for sport. Yes, we must have the weapons if we are to be safe.

Is that why 35,000 people are killed each year by guns? To keep the shooter safe? Really?

I think the Taliban would approve your rights. Afterall, it has made it easy for them to take over their nation and govern it so very well. What a model of perfection we have to follow.

On another note, under the Taliban, citizens are to behave and believe as they do. Don’t agree with them? They will shoot you. They will rape your wives and daughters. They will confiscate your belongings, your savings, your wealth. And yet, with those assets, what do they do?

Girls are not in schools. Girls are covered from head to toe so they are pristine and not causing men to get sexually aroused. The women and girls are held sacrosanct until the men need to pleasure themselves. And then, because the females allowed this to happen to them, they take them out into the streets and stone them to death.

Stoning is an age old means of punishing a person suspected of wrongdoing. If that person survives the stoning, they are judged innocent. Trouble is, few ever survive stoning. It is a deadly, hideous way to die. Under a pile of rocks, each having been thrown by a hater to hit, hurt, disable and kill the target.

Yes, that is the way of the Taliban. Their beliefs and their God are all powerful. Government is whatever the religion says it is. Religion has been the scourge of societies from the beginning of time. Religion is not something that guides government policy; it is something that destroys the very people they say they wish to lead and protect.

Some protection. Some leadership. Poor or no education. Poor public health. Poor public safety. Poor economy. Poverty for all. And degradation.

And now the American Taliban, known as the Supreme Court, rules abortions are not guaranteed by the constitution. Well neither were cars, modern medicine, jobs or anything else. Oh, yes, guns were guaranteed, weren’t they. Yes, guns, again.

With the fight renewed for abortion rights, I guess we will have to fight for Gay Rights, the right to marry, the right to go to the bathroom. How about the right to wear clothing of my own choosing? Or not?

Well, we will just have to see what the American Taliban has to say about all that.

Just remember, the Taliban never created a job or an economic movement. They only say no. To everyone they say no. Unless it is something they want.

Then it is OK. Wow. What a country. What a governing philosophy. What a supreme court.

Not.
