Doing your Do
Today is one day you have. Right now. Not yesterday, that was then. Not tomorrow because that is not yet. What we do with today will help define our tomorrow. There is a link between past, present and future. That is logical. I am not saying anything startlingly new. The message has always been there. It is only up to us to see, hear and heed the message.
Our brains are machines of logic. One plus one equals two if you are thinking in binary. It is another if your code is 8 or 10 or some other base number.
What we put in our brains affects the data the brain works with. Garbage in, garbage out is a well-worn adage. What we pay attention to filters out the unneeded and false, the illogical and disconnected subjects. Focus helps us stay on track in our thinking. Muddling through a swamp of unconnected debris distracts the brain from focus and conclusions that matter.
Process helps us wade through all of this available input. Learning the process that best works for each of us takes work, practice and patience. This is not done in a trice.
The first part of this process is gathering the sources of input. The second part is discerning if the sources are reliable. Third, we assess the scope, continuity and logic of the data. Fourth, we identify connectors of the data items so we can profitably use them in our thinking and assembling of new conclusions.
Truncate any one of these steps and the process most likely fails. Conclusions are made that are faulty. Faulty conclusions lead to sloppy thinking and manufacture of false assertions and opinions.
Don’t do that. Instead, do your own work and own it.
Now, attend to the subjects of your interest and build a system of knowledge that helps you deal with the world. You will soon learn that we live in a world of lax discipline and sloppy thinking. The consequences of this are powerful.
Democracy is one such casualty. Citizens who do not pay attention and discern fact and logic, will no doubt vote on candidates and issues totally unconnected to reality. They think otherwise, but they are wrong. You know that. I know that. Only ideologues disagree.
And that is where we find ourselves today. We listen to garbage and assume it is correct. We make conclusions with this data and extend opinions farther out in our ‘world of reality.’
Only it is not real because it is not factual. It is not provable. It is propaganda. It cannot be trusted.
Know this and do the right thing. Do your thinking you believe in and can prove over and over again. This action will heal you and protect you from the false data. Time and patience will heal us all. But this mending must start with you and me.
There’s work to be done.
