Tech Support
I could keep a techie busy full time. Yes, the problems are consistent and present in my life. At times I feel doomed. I know this is a common complaint of many. In my case, 82 years of age is the main issue, but huge tech changing at a fast pace is most likely the larger issue. If you are young you deal with this continuously and probably don’t notice it. In my case and my fellow elders, we adjusted to new technology decades ago and used it nonstop for interceding decades. We know what we are talking about and experiencing. We have learned and forgotten much more than you can imagine. Just think of that!
Today I have files of all sorts created on many software
platforms using different computer systems. I started with an IBM desktop in 1978,
moved to a series of Dells and now a Lenovo. Olson and Compac niggles my
memory, too, but that was back in the 80’s.
Today’s Lenovo is a special system that is voice activated.
Interesting note is that we bought it for Rocky when he had just had his voice
box removed due to cancer. Little did we know the machine was special just for
voice activation! Hilarious. We both laughed until we cried.
At any rate, the Lenovo system wants to do things I know
nothing about. It pauses at odd times, too, making for disjointed writing.
The system goes down automatically without warning. I reboot
and hope for the best. 30 minutes later (often much later) the system is up and
running again. I have no clue why this happens, just that it does and leaves me
bewildered. Most of the time I turn off the machine and restart later.
Morning startups take 30 to 45 minutes before I can do
anything. Sometimes I even have to reboot to get going. When I get ahead
financially, I will call a techie to visit and make everything right again. If
not, I guess I’ll go back to using my old laptop or buy a new one.
I have not given up yet. Rocky used to save me from all this,
but he is gone now over two years. My granddaughters can’t come running from
campus each time I’m in trouble, so I’ll have to figure this out myself.
I think simplicity will be the answer. How I force that to
happen will be the mystery!
